The project “Lviv. Architecture of Modernism” is beginning a collaboration with the ZMIN Foundation
Our research and documentation project on interwar modernist architecture, “Lviv. Modernist Architecture,” is beginning a collaboration with the ZMIN Foundation.
It is worth noting that the ZMIN Foundation was established to pursue systematic expert activities. Its mission is to enhance effective societal transformations and sustainable development. ZMIN supports initiatives and directions that are relevant to the current context, while also providing opportunities to build knowledge and tools for strategic thinking for the future—through grants, scholarships, and co-creation of projects.
The primary goal of this partnership is to establish a sustainable collaboration to promote and support the research and documentation of modernist architecture. Among the first steps in this cooperation will be developing a new website for the project and creating an English version of the site, supported by the Foundation.
The “Lviv. Modernist Architecture” website launched in the spring of 2017 and now requires technical and visual updates. The addition of an English version will help broaden the project’s readership and introduce the interwar modernist architecture of Lviv to international audiences and researchers. This is especially important in the context of war, as this heritage remains under constant threat of destruction.
Together with ZMIN, colleagues from the media family Lviv Online (of which “Lviv. Architecture of Modernism” is a part), and a designer, we have discussed concepts for the new design and functionality of the site and have already begun work. The visual aspects of the website are being developed by graphic designer Maryan Ivasyk, who has extensive experience collaborating with artists, musicians, fashion designers, and other multidisciplinary projects. The programming will be handled by Zinovii Hoianiuk, who developed the previous version of the site and has been providing technical support for the project since its inception. The translation of texts will be carried out by translator and literary scholar Marta Hosovska. The process will be coordinated by Myroslava Liakhovych, head of the “Lviv. Architecture of Modernism” project, in collaboration with colleagues from the Foundation.
Below are screenshots of the new website version, which we aimed to make as simple and user-friendly as possible. The information is structured, and the design is deliberately minimalistic to emphasize the website’s content. This is especially important since the project contains a large amount of visual material, which overly elaborate design elements should not overshadow.
The first screenshot shows the website’s homepage, where the main focus is on the “Objects” section. This section will be updated most frequently and contains architectural information and photographs of buildings. The menu in the new version of the website is located on the left.
The second screenshot displays how the “Objects” page will look on the website. The sorting by public and residential architecture is retained; however, the “Streets” subsection has been removed and will now be included within residential architecture. Additionally, the new menu provides a more organized overview of the range and diversity of architectural objects.
